The IMO Podcast is a series of open and honest conversations with care leavers that gives a voice to the diverse experiences that make up the care population. Each episode we invite someone who’s been in care to talk about anything they like. It’s an opportunity to hear the voices of people who often don’t get the chance to tell their stories, and it’s a chance to inspire and encourage others in similar situations.

Subscribe to the IMO podcast on Google, Apple or Spotify to hear episodes as they’re released.

In the second episode of series 2, we speak to care leaver Charlotte about the importance of advocacy and her work with the National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS), accessing mental health support, and moving into semi-independent living.

The biggest advice that I could give to [other care leavers] is I know you want to have fun, I know you’ve got your own house for the first time and it’s this freedom that you have but you need to remember that the people coming round have a place to go afterwards. That is your home, and you need to protect it and look after it.
